Sunbathing and Water SportsVranov dam abelongs to the warmest water reservoirs in the Czech Republic. Water temperature often enables to bathe as early as at the beginning of June and summer season ends as late as in the middle of September. Water quality in the dam has been rated as a very good one for years. Gradual access into water and sandy beach is very suitable for small children as well. Sporty holidaymakers will appreciate volleyball ground, table tennis, waterslide, rental of boats, pedal boats and sport equipment. There are also very favourable conditions for water sport lovers (for example windsurfing and yachting). |

Hiking and CyclingNational Park Podyjí is made accessible by a net of well arranged signed tracks. Hiking foothpaths(cca 70 km) and cycling routes (almost 30 km within the NP Podyjí) are connected to standard track system not only on the area of the Czech Republic but also in the Austrian part of Podyjí - Nationalpark Thayatal. If you combine the routes well you can easily see the whole territory of the national parks along both banks of the river Dyje. Tourists like especially one path connecting Vranov nad Dyjí and Austrian Hardegg (border crossing for foot-passengers and cyclists between Čížov and Hardegg) which is about 12 km long. From this smallest Austrian town which is dominated by a former border stronghold you can continue on either Czech or Austrian side of the border and follow the tourist paths in the southeastern direction as far as to Znojmo. If you want to go for a shorter walk in the nearest outskirts of Vranov nad Dyjí, choose one of marked walking paths with extraordinary observation points from where you can enjoy view on the river Dyje valley. |

Cultural and Historical Monuments, Technical Matters of InterestVranov nad Dyjí and its surroundings offers a number of attractive sights for those who love history and cultural monuments. In the nearest surroundings you can, for example, see the Bítov castle, chateaux at Uherčice and Jevišovice, Frejštejn, Cornštejn and Nový Hrádek ruins. If you have enough time there are many other sights – a little further from Vranov though but not less interesting. |

Historical Znojmo town is also full of sights on every step. Not only local castle and Rotunda of St. Catherine or the Monastery of Minorite Order are worth seeing but unique Znojmo catacombs, Townhall or Louka Monastery as well. Especially your children will appreciate if you take a ride on a sightseeing car which will show you round Znojmo history crisscross within 90 minutes. In autum people of all generations like to come and stay over weekend to see the annual Znojmo Vintage Festival which has become more and more popular recently. If you are interested more in technical matters you should not miss the Museum of Historical Tatra Vehicles at Bítov, Museum of motocycles in Lesná, historical water mill at Slup or Open-air Museum of Czechoslovak pre-war fortification right at Vranov. |

Znojemsko - All about WineWine and Znojmo region are inseparable. If you want to learn more about them you are reading the right lines. One of the possibilities how to join pleasure with usefulness is to take advantage of the wine tourist program.Your sightseeing trip can aim at Moravian Wine Cellar in Šatov, unique Painted Wine Cellar in Šatov, Crosswise Wine Cellar in Přímětice – the biggest one in Central Europe, Museum of Viniculture at Louka Monastery in Znojmo or vineyard Šobes which is very extraordinarily situated right in the middle of the National Park Podyjí. If you want to deepen your knowledge and enrich yourself with some practical experience, you should plan to sit down and enjoy at least one evening in one of local traditional wine cellars.
In spite of the fact that Vranov nad Dyjí is not lying right in the middle of wine growing region there is one special event taking place every year - Depository of sparkling wine to the bottom of Vranov dam. Here the wine matures for whole year and it gets the necessary quality attributes. During the act of depository there is always an auction and festive pulling up of older vintages of sparkling wine. |
FishingMiscellaneous possibilities which Vranov nad Dyjí, Vranov dam and surrounding private ponds offer will attract all fishermen. DYJE No.14 - trout preserve can be found in the river bellow Vranov dam. Those who want to fish can get to one part of the National Park Podyjí where non fishermen will never be able to approach. Big draughts of trout(Salmo trutta) and grayling (Thymallus) can be expected especially from the end of August till the end of October and also right after the opening of fishing season (from middle April till the end of May). Trout and grayling are regularly planted out in the river. Grayling is fished in Dyje No. 14 mainly in autumn season. DYJE No.13 - trout preserve is all spread on the NP Podyjí area. Ther River Dyje makes the border between both neighbouring countries here so fishermen must follow stricter rules of Fishermen Code which is valid for these kinds of waters. Water approach is possible only at several places of the NP Podyjí and only on foot. But there is a reward after a challenging walk – fishing experience in the middle of peace and quiet of virgin nature. DYJE No.15 -
non-trout preserve (Vranov dam) including whole Vranov dam
with part of its inflowing creeks (Dyje and Želetavka). Dam itself reaches the
length of 35 km but thanks to many meanders different fish stations are max.15 km far
from Vranov. In the dam reservoir itself, Swiss and Lančov Bays mostly pikes
(Esox lucius), then Aspius and Stizostedion Lucioperca are caught (record of 1997
is 11,90
kg) and also carps
(Cyprinus carpio). At Bitov there are mostly Abramis brama and carps. Another
part called Farářka is renowned for record catch of catfish (Silurus) and at
the edge of the dam in Podhradí nad Dyjí you can successfully catch even eels
(Anguilla). Within the Czech Republic
evaluation Vranov dam has achieved record catch of: catfish (93 kg), pike (27,20 kg) and eel
(4,20
kg). |

Private pond "U Jejkala" - good quality pond (carps, tenches - Tinca) in a scenic setting on the edge of NP Podyjí. Permit for this pond can be obtained right in Vranov nad Dyjí. To get the permit you don’t have to be a member of Fishermen Association. |

Picking MushroomsWhen there are favourable climatic conditions woods around Vranov nad Dyjí change into a paradise for mushroom pickers. Picking of forest fruits on the NP territory is regulated by the Regulations of NP Podyjí. |
